Kiosk Design: Biomimicry Concept

Part of the Senior Thesis Project was to design a  150 to 200 square feet (inside and outside) biomimicry freestanding kiosk to meet the client program. The main requirement was to integrate a simple process found in life that is reinterpreted in design.

For my bioimimicry kiosk, the process found in life that is reinterpreted in design is Stomata. They are tiny pores in leaves which plants respire. They control water loss and gas exchange by opening and closing and allowing water vapor and oxygen out of the leaves and carbon dioxide into the leaf.  To imitates the process of Stomata, I decided to use Jena Nouvel's Institut du Monde Arabe radical high-tech walls emblazoned with mechanical apertures that responds to sunlight dilating to allow to suffuse the interior to indicate my design.
